In the first stanza, Walt Whitman uses diction to display many people who may have the same field of work but hold different positions. In the sentence â€Å"Boss, journeyman, apprentice — churchman and atheist† (line 2) the author shows how the boss is above the journeyman and then the apprentice. Below all those are the churchman and the atheist showing that despite them being different they all still work together in order to keep the work system going. Another reference is â€Å" The stupid and the wise thinker† (line 3) and when you put that beside â€Å"churchman and atheist†( line 2) the author tries to convey that no matter the position or belief this individuals hold, they are all capable of learning the lesson he is trying to teach. He will be there to list en to all the stories without questioning them. He doesn’t focus on his own ideas and beliefs only but appears open-minded instead. This position he is in shows the overall meaning of the poem which is to focus on what’s around you and pay attention to the moments. The following stanza works with stanza 3 for one reason. In stanza 3, Whitman tries to explain how hearing all these beautiful stories make him appreciate and feel the words from others. In stanza 4, he states â€Å" I cannot day to any person what I hear-I cannot say it to myself-it is very wonderful† (line 12). The power and beauty of the words that are spoken to him from others find him to be speechless. The feeling he gets from the words are more powerful for than the actual words. For example, in order to understand a certain situation such as a heartbreak you must experience or feel it.
